After completing my education on the east coast, I went on to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston for my residency.
My training there was long and grueling but that experience has taught me many valuable things ~ the most important being what makes an excellent practice like Capital Women’s Care .
The level of dedication demonstrated by every Division 22 doctor and staff member amazes me. Dr. Bernard Band, the ‘patriarch’ of CWC was a surgical mentor to me, and his stories remind me of the courage and tenacity it takes to be a good doctor.
I strive to honor his legacy by caring for each patient with kindness and sound medical advice. Like all of my other colleagues, I am board certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. My areas of specialty are general obstetrics and gynecology.
I have been practicing with this group for almost twenty years and find joy in each and every day!
I studied locally, at The College of Notre Dame, MD, and Georgetown University in Washington,
How I Became an Ob/GYN
When I was in medical school, I had a job as a medical assistant for an established Ob/Gyn, and he was an impressive mentor to me. I first-handedly observed his compassionate encounters with his patients, and how his work satisfaction led to his personal happiness.
I knew I wanted to be a doctor, but hadn’t decided on which specialty to focus. After I delivered my first baby ~ I knew I wanted to help other women! I enjoy being able to talk with my patients, and help to alleviate anxieties and help them discover the courage to make difficult decisions.
Running…here and there
I am so fortunate to have a caring, understanding family that has supported me throughout my career, despite all of the time it took away from them. My children have grown into beautiful young adults, and I am incredibly proud of them! Growing up as the youngest of six children, life was always busy, and I still look forward to getting together with everyone.
In college, I was a three sport athlete and I’m not ready to let go of that, so in my free time I love to exercise! You can find me playing tennis or golf, running, doing strength training, and doing F45 classes. I have completed six marathons and many half marathons/triathlons.
Traveling brings a special level of excitement to my life and I’ve been able to have some amazing trips together with CWC’s Dr. Tyau. It’s such an honor to have been part of this practice for so long, and God willing I’ll be here for many years to come!
