Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery

Minimally Invasive Surgery | Montgomery County Maryland Silver Spring RockvilleMinimally invasive surgery refers to a variety of surgical techniques which produce less damage to your body compared to traditional and conventional surgical methods.  Instead of making one large incision or opening, we use incisions that are oftentimes millimeters in length to reduce the amount of damage normally caused by an operation. Almost all of our patients go home the same day of their surgery and most return to work in days rather than weeks.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Minimally invasive surgery is popular in many areas of medicine, not just gynecology.  Regardless of the specialty, a minimally invasive surgeon requires advanced training.  Our COEMIG designated surgeons have completed rigorous training and a lengthy evaluation process allowing us to provide these procedures to our patients.

Minimally invasive surgery allows our Capital Women’s Care patients to have fewer complications, smaller incisions, less discomfort, and faster recovery times so they can get back their regular activities much sooner when compared to conventional surgery. This is combined with all of the same medical benefits of traditional open surgical options.

Referral Center and Second OpinionsMinimally Invasive Surgery | Rockville Silver Spring MD

We have established ourselves as a referral center for other physicians who want to provide their patients with minimally invasive options. We also offer consultations for second opinions for patients who may have been told that minimally invasive surgery is not for them.

There is no specific “minimally invasive” procedure.  Unlike other providers, we offer a wide range of minimally invasive surgical approaches, including vaginal, laparoscopic, hysteroscopic and robotic gynecological surgery.

Every patient is different and some techniques are better suited for certain patients and medical conditions. What’s important to remember is that there are other options beyond traditional or open surgical techniques.

Advantages of Minimally Invasive Gyn Surgery

There are many benefits to a minimally invasive surgical approach when treating patients. By utilizing minimally invasive techniques and instruments, we are able to perform traditional surgery using millimeter sized incisions versus large open incisions. Some of the many benefits include:

  • Faster recovery
  • Less pain
  • Smaller incisions and smaller scars
  • Reduced hospitalization
  • Less blood loss
  • Reduced chance of infection
